Thirty-One Newborns Across Alabama Receive a Total $16,399 in CollegeCounts Savings Funds

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (July 14, 2016) – Alabama State Treasurer Young Boozer today announced the statewide winners of the CollegeCounts Alabama’s 529 Plan promotion, held in honor of 5/29 Day (May 29).  Each family was given a $529 contribution to their newborn’s newly opened CollegeCounts Alabama’s 529 account.

The promotion, in its second year, gave families of children born from May 1-31, 2016 the opportunity to visit AL529Day.com and enter their contact information and date of their child’s birth.  Winners were selected statewide at random and notified shortly after the entry deadline of June 15, 2016. A total of $16,399 was given to parents of 31 newborns.

“We were thrilled with the participation in this year’s 5/29 Day promotion,” said Young Boozer, Alabama State Treasurer. “Our hope is that these starter funds will motivate the families to continue to invest in order to help lessen the burden of college costs in the future.”
