The Alabama OfFice of State Treasurer provides access to public records in accordance with Alabama law.
POLICY:
Section 36-12-40, Code of Alabama, makes public records available to residents of Alabama, subject to certain exemptions. Generally, these exemptions include, but are not limited to, information that is protected as private, confidential, privileged or otherwise non-public.
Information for each Treasury Division, including the ability to perform a search for unclaimed property, may be found on the Treasury website at www.treasury.alabama.gov. For any other information, Alabama residents may make requests for public records maintained by the Treasurer’s Office by completing the Public Records Request below.
Upon receiving a completed request, the Treasurer’s Office will acknowledge receipt and note any deficiencies associated with the request. These deficiencies may include, but are not limited to, incomplete or improperly completed request forms, non-resident requests, requests that are vague, ambiguous, overly broad or unreasonable in scope, or requests for records not maintained by the Treasurer’s Office.
You may be required to pay reasonable fees before receiving any public records. The Treasurer’s Office may charge up to $20.00 per hour (with a $20.00 minimum) for locating and preparing requested documents. In addition, there may be a fee of up to $1.00 per requested page provided. If fees will be assessed, you will be given a cost estimate, and records may be held until payment is received. The type and volume of records requested will determine the availability, cost and processing time for the request. In addition, extensive requests for records may increase the fees assessed to cover the administrative cost of searching and producing the requested records.
